This poster series for REI was just for fun. Adventuring in the outdoors is one of my favorite things to do, so I combined that passion with REI and invented an extreme sport offering that would be a tougher version of the expeditions they already offer.

I wanted the posters to look cinematic. To market to someone interested in extreme sports, you have to be larger than life. Thrill-seekers won’t stand for the mundane. I created three posters to illustrate this point for three activities.

For the alpine enthusiasts, I wanted the viewer to feel small and insignificant next to the task of summiting a mountain. In the poster, the people are small while the peak looms in the distance. The imagery is a composite of a few images and photoshopping additional clouds to give it an atmospheric effect. You will also notice in the margins a hint of texture representing the traditional patterns you will find in clothing warm enough to withstand high mountain environments.

The Plunge and The Depths are styled and designed with the same kinds of elements. Cinematic photography, careful photoshopping, and patterns that represent the activities shown.
